Abstract
Pavement surface evaluation using the PCI method on the Fernando Belaunde Terry highway, Banda de Shilcayo-Juan Guerra section. This final thesis report, entitled Pavement surface evaluation using the PCI method on the Fernando Belaúnde Terry highway, Banda de Shilcayo-Juan Guerra section, presents a comprehensive evaluation of the pavement condition of the mentioned road section using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method. The study focused on the determination of the PCI through visual inspection and measurement of the different types of deterioration present on the pavement surface, considering parameters such as rutting, crocodile skin, cracks, potholes, patches, deformation, etc. The methodology established by Eng. Luis Ricardo Vásquez Varela, in his book PAVEMENT CONDITION INDEX (PCI) for asphalt and concrete pavements in roads, was used to evaluate the PCI, following a systematic procedure of inspection and quantification of defects. The results obtained show a pavement condition index that reflects the general condition of the road section analyzed. The areas with the greatest deterioration were identified and the severity of each type of damage was quantified. The investigation made it possible to determine the need for construction, maintenance and rehabilitation interventions in specific sections of the road, prioritizing the areas with the highest rate of deterioration. Finally, recommendations are presented for the planning and execution of an effective road maintenance program to prolong the useful life of the pavement and guarantee the safety and comfort of the users of the Fernando Belaúnde Terry highway in the section studied. The study provides valuable information for decision making in the management and maintenance of road infrastructure in the San Martin region, contributing to the optimization of resources and the improvement of connectivity in the area. It is concluded that the application of the PCI method is an effective tool for the evaluation of pavement condition and the planning of construction, maintenance and rehabilitation interventions.
