Fondo Editorial, 2012) Correa Vasquez, Elisviherd Jane; Guerra Cordova, Sandra Liliana; Condori, LuisaThe present paper is to determine the relationship between the leve! of knowledge and practicas on Acute Respiratory lnfections (ARI) in mothers of children less than five years of the health center Morales. October to December 2011, because in Peru, the IRA is an important public health problem, ranking first among the causes of morbidity in children under 5 years. lt is an applied study, descriptive - correlational cross-sectional multimethod focused. fhe sampie consisted of 69 mothers who met the inciusion criteria, iess probabilistically to 95% confidence. Far data collection a questionnaire was developed that consisted of 30 items to measure the variables are assigned a score to the mothers' responses to both knowledge to practica. lt also conducted a focus group, which helped strengthen and complement the characteristics of the study. The interviews were taped and transcribed. The emerging categories were: Signs and symptoms of the disease, causes of disease, complications of the disease, care to minimiza the symptoms of the disease. The results show that 84.1 % of mothers have average knowledge, of which 65.5% had good practices, 8.7% had low knowledge and poor practices applied (100%} and oniy 7.2% have high knowledge and aii practicas have correct (100%). Mothers recognized as the main sign runny nose, also when the child IRA, usually perform sorne empirical practices and I or traditional, such as teas, syrups, inhalations, baths and herbal extracts or "medicinal plants", rubbing with ointments viii menthol and chicken fat, sorne mothers make use of self-medication (paracetamol, ibuprofen, chlorpheniramine and amoxicillin). Concluding that there is a direct relationship between the level of knowledge and prevention practicas IRA by mothers of children less than five years attending the Health Centre Morales. Many measures of support are based on knowledge, beliefs, and experiences of these conditions, which can be beneficia!, harmless or impair the chlid;s health. Keywords: acute respiratory infection.
